The Hunger Games

I just finished this YA novel by Suzanne Collins. I was looking for a read aloud that would inspire my students to read the sequels and I wanted a novel that might inspire their writing. I think I found it in this book.

I usually do not get hooked on a book, but I just loved this story.  The movie is in development with a release date on 2011.

Once I finished the book, I immediately ordered the other two books.

The new background looks great!

YA.. is young adults?

I hated reading aloud. LOL - I was always 200 pages ahead of the class and never knew where they were when asked to read.

I've read Hunger Games and Catching Fire. Both were incredible. I couldn't put them down. I'm looking forward to her third book in this series. Sixth graders should LOVE these books.

Okie Book Woman ~ Amazon shipped Catching Fire yesterday so there is a chance I could get it today. Can't wait! I am going to read The Hunger Games as our second read aloud. I always read "Baby" by Patricia MacLachlan as our first read aloud. It is such a sweet novel and there is so much to discuss.

Just wrapped these up for my son's birthday... knowing him they'll be available for me to read in about 24 hours! Is Mocking Jay the newest one?

Reading the first one now as per your (and several students') recommendation. I am loving it! You might want to try the Shadow Children Series by Haddux and The Boys Start the War series by Reynolds-Naylor.

My class loves both of these series and I will usually read the first two and then let them discover the other books on their own.

Teachin4th ~ I am half way through the second book and it is just as good, maybe better. I am off to Amazon now to check out those titles you recommended. Thanks!
